When it comes to skin health, the food we eat can be more important than the creams we rub on our faces. Not only is food literally the fuel that allows our bodies to perform, it’s also the building blocks that help regenerate our skin, nails, hair and every cell in our bodies.
I’ve created this Glowing Skin Smoothie recipe with the following foods as the main ingredients for these reasons:
Spinach is high in vitamin C, which aids in the production of collagen. Collagen is the most abundant structural protein found in the body: It’s found in tendons, ligaments and skin. Spinach also contains vitamin E, which has anti-aging properties because it guards your skin against damage from the sun’s UV rays.
Brazil nuts are high in selenium, a mineral that helps protect skin from sun damage—and it helps the skin stay firm. They are also beneficial for thyroid health.
Matcha green tea powder helps reduce inflammation. It’s high in antioxidants, which help stabilize free radicals that damage the skin. It does contain caffeine, but not the kind that gives you the jitters.
Greek yogurt is much higher in protein per serving than regular yogurt. Not only will this help balance your blood sugar, it also keeps your gut flora balanced, which can aid in a healthier and happier complexion. Because of its probiotics and lactose enzymes, you can use Greek yogurt as a face mask to eat away dirt and dead skin for a smooth, glowing complexion.
If skin health is important to you, try starting your mornings with this Glowing Skin Smoothie recipe for a delicious breakfast and treat for your face.
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
2 cups baby spinach
2 to 3 Brazil nuts
1 teaspoon matcha powder
1 teaspoon raw honey

3 to 4 ice cubes
Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. You can add small amounts of water, depending on how thick you enjoy your smoothies.
